Here are a few more tips to build your vocabulary for tasting:

1. Use flavor descriptors: The adjectives used in describing wine may often seem unrelated to any actual flavor. Instead of blurting out any adjective, describe the fruit or spice notes you detect. Determine whether the wine is acidic or high in tannin by assessing the pucker feel in your mouth as you drink.
2. Have a conversation about the wine: Mingling with experienced drinkers is a great way to improve your own knowledge, so start a discussion about the wine you are tasting. You might offer a brief description of what strikes you about the wine and then ask another drinker what he or she thinks. A Look inside the Winemaking Process

Making wine is a process that is thousands of years old, although the methods have changed through time as technology has improved.
